My Little Treasures - Salvos Finds & More

I went to one of Salvos stores the other day and look what I found there!

These cute little ones were neatly ironed and packed in a cellophane bag closed with a heart shaped sticker :)

And look at this:

Blessed be the heart of whoever was this thoughtful :)
I haven't decided yet what I'm going to do with these precious items, but I just couldn't possibly let them sit at Salvos.
For now, I want to keep everything as it is, but at some point I might turn gingham cloths (or one of them) into pillows.
I just love knowing that I have someones time and love (which is life actually) to treasure. My imagination is bursting with all possible stories that might be hidden in these humble pieces and that makes them soooo precious to me.
I wish I had more time to shop around for such things :(

And now look at these babies:

I found them in a two-dollar shop after work last Friday. There are four in each color.
I might use some of them for decorations in my son's room.
I will let you know when I do something with these (there are so many possibilities).

If you have an idea, let me know - I would love to publish it here.

DK

Getting Ready for 'Made in Thornbury'

I am preparing to participate at 'Made in Thornbury' Craft Market in July.
Apart from decorated boxes, I will show crocheted and knitted winter accessories this time.
Here are some of my hats:

I'd love to see this hat and wrap worn over a long coat and boots, something I would call the 'Oliver Twist Style' :)

I'll let you know how I go with meeting a person who would like that kind of a look as much as I do.

"Vision is the art of seeing things invisible."

Today I just wanted to let everybody know I am still around and preparing new projects for this blog and the craft market I intend to participate at soon.

This is a picture I made at Gold Coast two weeks ago.
(It is so cold in Melbourne now, this looks like a very, very distant memory already!)

Come back soon, there are new posts coming :)

In the meantime, do your best to see the invisible XOX

Mother's Day Craft Ideas - Part Four

I played a little with a photo I made some days ago and here is an idea:
Print these images on a good quality paper and frame them.
I think this is a great Mother's Day gift!
You can easily alter your own images, but I have done the work for you here.

I made 31 variations on this image, so here is another group:

Enjoy it!

Paper Flower for Mom

This is something you can involve children with - a very easy item to make.
I am going to show you the basics and you can come up with many variations.

All you need is some tissue paper and floral wire or green pipe cleaners (chenille stems) like I used here.

I first made a circle pattern for my flower and that would be a perfectly right shape for this kind of a flower.
However, when I started cutting the paper, I decided to give it a free shape. It just seemed to me to be more interesting.

You can play with the shape, and if you cut the paper with 'zig-zag' scissors you will achieve your flower to look very much like a carnation.
I used eight layers of paper here. Adding more layers will result in a richer look of your flower.
Now just make a small hole in the middle of the layered paper and fix it to your 'stem'. I just twisted the chenille stem to keep the paper in place.
You can use the flower for interior decoration (you can make a whole bunch of them) or as an embellishment when wrapping gifts.

In just a few minutes you can make something that will make your mother smile.

Mother's Day Craft Ideas - A Heart for Mom

OK, so we are almost there. I love Mother's Day!
Try this:

This felt heart filled with lavender or rosemary (my choice this time) is a great little gift that will be loved and used. Placed in a drawer or hanging in a closet, this sachet will keep your clothes smell fresh and natural.
It is easy to make and looks so cure, mom will be glad to have it or even choose to keep it as a room freshener just to let her visitors see her precious little gift.

Here is how to create this particular heart shape:

I cut two identical pieces of red felt and one smaller in pink.

To achieve this naive and rustic look, I chose rough stitches and chunky yellow yarn. I first attached the pink heart to one of my red hearts. Then I added the other red heart to the back. I made a 'pocket' which I filled with dried rosemary and than sewed it all together. You can also glue the edges together, but I preferred to put some more work ( read: 'love') into this.
At the end, I added these lovely beads to the design. Just because they look like m&m's.

Enjoy it! I hope Mom will too :)

Mother's Day Craft Ideas - Part One (Recycle)

Just a quick one today:

I recycled my old stockings and made this cute little bag. This one took four pairs. Just cut stripes 1-2 cm wide and use as yarn.

This is just an idea - you can let your imagination go wild and make whatever would suit your mom's style.
I bet mom won't mind to wear what used to be your pantyhose. Others will not be able to tell anyway.

More is coming :)

DK
